The Local Area

North Moreton is a beautiful village in South Oxfordshire. We are proud to be the custodians of the village pub, which we believe should sit in the heart of the local community. The village is home to the All Saints’ parish church that dates back to the 13th century and houses one of the finest stained glass windows in the country, depicting the Passion of Christ. The village is also home to the North Moreton cricket club, who we are proud supporters of, and whose ground borders the pub’s garden. The club has a number of senior sides, a ladies team and a renowned juniors team too.

Local attractions

Our corner of Oxfordshire is one that is perfect for a weekend’s exploration. Here are some of our favourite things to do nearby:

  • The Wittenham Clumps are a pair of rolling hills just to the north of the village. Owned and managed by the environmental charity, The Earth Trust, the Clumps offer beautiful footpaths and views over Oxfordshire.

  • The Ridgeway, one of England’s finest and most historic National Trails, lies about 5 miles south of the Pub. We recommend walking up onto the Trail from the car park by Streatley golf club - and keep an eye out for wild garlic in the spring!

  • The historic market town of Wallingford offers a clutch of independent shops and restaurants (including our own!), access to the Thames Path, and a fantastic local producer market on alternate Saturdays.

  • For those brave enough for a wild swim, the stretch of the Thames between Clifton Hampden and Dorchester-on-Thames is hard to beat. There are numerous sandy ‘beaches’ to paddle in from, and the odd rope-swing too.

Where to stay

We recommend the fantastic St Peter’s Farm campsite for those who want to make a weekend of it in the village. The campsite is just 100 yards away from the pub, across the cricket field.

How to reach us

North Moreton is two miles southeast of Didcot, which can be reached from London Paddington in around 40 minutes. There is a footpath from the town to the village, or the Number 94 bus stops just outside the pub.

The market town of Wallingford is three miles to the east, and is home to the team’s Five Little Pigs restaurant and The Keep bar. Buses run to Wallingford from Oxford and Reading.
